Baseball and softball insoles for cleats that stand around, then explode
Baseball asks you to stand still for minutes and then move at absolute maximum. Springbak® Springsoles drop into metal or molded cleats and give you a resilient layer to push against on the first step out of the box, off the bag and out of the crouch — 3/32 of an inch, four U.S. patents, made in the USA.

What baseball & softball demands of your feet
- First-step quickness out of the box, off the bag and out of the crouch
- Rotational drive from the back foot in swings and pitches
- Long innings standing on hard-plate cleats with almost nothing underfoot
- Catchers squatting and re-loading well over a hundred times a game
- Doubleheaders, showcases and tournament weekends on hard infield dirt
Why Springsoles fit this sport
Rotational push-back
Energy return from the back foot supports the ground force a swing or a pitch is built on — the sequence starts at the rear cleat, not at the hands.
Grounded stance stability
The Weber State force-plate study found it took more than twice the force to push a standing player off balance on Springsoles. In the box and in the crouch that anchoring effect means a wider effective base, better balance and a stronger platform to rotate against.
Comfort in thin-insoled cleats
Most baseball cleats ship with almost nothing underfoot. A 3/32" resilient layer changes how nine innings — and a two-game Saturday — feel.
Positional versatility
Catchers, infielders, outfielders and pitchers all load the same cleat differently. One layer sits under all of it, in metal or molded.
Cleat-safe thickness
3/32" is even from heel to toe, so there is no heel lift, no change to plate feel and no change to how a locked-down cleat holds your foot.
The technology, materials and four U.S. patents behind Springsoles are detailed on How it works.

What actually makes the best insoles for baseball & softball
Most inserts are sold on how soft they feel in the store. On a hard court the question is what the layer under your foot does with the force of every stop — absorb it, or give it back.
| Insole type | On court | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thick cushioned foam insoles | Soft first, flat by July | Foam soaks up the force you just produced and dissipates it as heat, then packs out over a season of standing, squatting and rotating. It also lifts your foot inside a cleat that was built low on purpose. |
| Gel heel pads | Comfort, not return | Gel spreads impact under the heel but hands very little back into the next push-off, and the bulk changes how a snug cleat holds the rear foot in rotation. |
| Full-length carbon-plate insoles | Rebound, but your insole comes out | A moulded plate flexes and springs back, but it replaces the sock liner your cleat was designed around, changing footbed shape and internal volume at the same time. |
| Rigid arch orthotics | Support, prescribed use | Right when a clinician has prescribed one. They are built to control motion rather than return energy — a different question than a faster first step. |
| Springbak® Springsoles | Energy return at 3/32 of an inch | 1,4-polybutadiene stores the energy of each load and returns a share into the next push-off, thin enough to slide under the insole already in your cleat. |

Fit checker
Will it fit my baseball or softball cleats?
Pick the cleat you actually play in and see exactly how a Springsole goes in, how much to trim, and what stays untouched. These are the cleats we get asked about most, metal and molded.
Every verdict assumes a stock cleat. Manufacturers revise footbeds between model years, so tug the liner at the heel: if it is removable, the Springsole goes underneath it; if a lightly glued liner resists or starts to tear, stretch or deform, stop and put the Springsole on top. Never force a firmly bonded or stitched liner out.
Nike Vapor Edge Pro MCS (metal)
Low-profile metal cleat for speed positions
- Footbed
- Removable sock liner in stock form.
- Where the Springsole goes
- Lift the liner out, lay the Springsole flat against the plate printed side up, then drop the liner back on top.
- Trimming
- Trim the toe if it overhangs the last — low-profile metal cleats are the most common trim case.
- What you keep
- Plate feel, heel height and lace tension — the 3/32" layer sits below the liner.
Springbak® does not replace your shoe. It adds one 3/32" resilient layer under your foot inside the shoe you already race and play in. Springbak beneath your feet.

Fit, trim & sizing FAQ
Questions the fit checker answers
What does the "fits as-is" verdict mean for my baseball cleats?
+
"Fits as-is" means to try the stock model with the 3/32" Springsole untrimmed first. "Fits — trim the toe" means a small toe or forefoot trim may be needed only after that first fit check. "Check your pair first" means the liner may vary by model year.
How much do I trim, and where?
+
Try the Springsole without trimming first. Trim only if needed for a flat fit, starting at the toe/forefoot and removing a very small amount at a time. Do not trim the heel and do not unnecessarily narrow the sides. Recheck the fit after every small trim.
Does the Springsole go above or below my insole?
+
Try the Springsole without trimming first. If the factory liner is removable, remove it and place the Springsole underneath it. If the liner is lightly glued, gently pull to see whether it releases cleanly; if it does, place the Springsole underneath it. If the liner begins to tear, stretch, deform, or resist removal, stop and leave it in place. Put the Springsole on top instead. Never force out a firmly bonded or stitched liner.
What size Springsole do I order for my baseball cleats?
+
Order by your US cleat size on the Shop page — sizes run 6/7 through 14/15 and each pair covers a range. Softball players order the range matching their US shoe size. Try it untrimmed first; trim only the toe or forefoot if needed.
Will adding a layer change how my baseball cleats fit?
+
The layer is 3/32 of an inch (about 2.4 mm) and the same thickness from heel to toe, so there is no heel lift and no change to plate feel, pin or stud angle, lace tension or ankle-brace fit. Springbak® adds to the shoe you already compete in — we do not replace your insole and we do not replace your shoe. Springbak beneath your feet.
My model is not in the list — can I still use them?
+
Yes. The picker covers the models we are asked about most. If you are unsure, email info@springbak.net or call 951-277-3000 with your exact model.
Insole vs. midsole layer
Full-length replacement insoles vs. a Springbak® midsole layer
Almost every performance insert on the market is a replacement insole: you pull your shoe's sock liner out and put theirs in instead. Springbak® works the other way — it is a thin midsole layer that goes in as well as your insole, so nothing about your shoe is given up. In a baseball cleat that distinction is decisive: there is barely any insole to give up, and no interior volume to spend on a full replacement footbed.
| Product category | What it is | Where it sits | Typical thickness | What it does with impact |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Springbak® Springsoles | A 3/32" resilient 1,4-polybutadiene sheet, trimmed only if needed for a flat fit, made in the USA and covered by four U.S. patents. | Added under your shoe's own insole (or on top of a sewn-in pad). Your factory insole stays in the shoe. | 3/32 in (≈2.4 mm), even from heel to toe | Stores and returns energy inside the ground contact, and the material springs back to shape between reps. |
Sources | ||||
| Carbon-plate performance insoles (e.g. VKTRY VK Insoles) | A moulded, sport-specific carbon-fiber plate with a foam top cover, fitted by shoe size and athlete weight. | Replaces your shoe's insole — the factory sock liner comes out and stays out. | Full-length insole stack; considerably taller than a bare midsole layer | Flexes and rebounds as a plate. Because it replaces the insole, it also changes footbed shape and internal shoe volume. |
Sources | ||||
| Cushioned replacement insoles (e.g. Spenco) | Full-length foam, gel or PU insoles built around comfort, arch shape and pressure relief. | Replaces your shoe's insole. | Typically several millimetres, often heel-loaded | Designed primarily to absorb and spread impact rather than return it. |
Sources | ||||
| Viscoelastic shock-absorbing insoles (e.g. Sorbothane) | Full-length inserts made from a viscoelastic polymer specified for shock absorption and vibration damping. | Replaces your shoe's insole. | Full-length insole thickness, varies by model | Damps impact energy by design — that is the stated purpose of a viscoelastic material. |
Sources | ||||
| Structured support insoles (e.g. Superfeet, custom orthotics) | A rigid or semi-rigid shell with arch and heel posting, sometimes prescribed by a practitioner. | Replaces your shoe's insole. | Full-length shell plus posting | Built to control alignment and position the foot, not to give energy back at contact. |
Sources | ||||
| Your factory insole / sock liner | The die-cut foam liner your shoe was designed and fitted around. | Already in the shoe — and with Springbak®, it stays there. | ≈1–5 mm depending on the shoe | Comfort and fit layer with essentially no engineered energy return. |

We add, we don't replace
Springbak® is not a new insole and not a new shoe. Your shoe's fit, lockdown, plate feel and insole all stay exactly as the manufacturer built them — you simply add one thin resilient layer beneath your foot.
Sized for your shoe, trim only if needed
One pair covers a size range and is trimmed at the toe to your own foot outline, so a snug performance last is not a problem.
Return, not absorb
Cushioning products are engineered to soak impact up. Springbak®'s material is chosen to hand energy back inside the contact — and Weber State force plate testing showed it took more than twice the force to displace a person standing on Springsoles.

Weber State force plate testing
What the force-plate result means on the diamond
Weber State University Human Performance Laboratory testing — sponsored by the BYU Department of Gerontology and reviewed by Dr. Michael Yessis, Dr. Robert Wiswell of USC, and Howard Gray, PhD of BYU — measured the horizontal force needed to push a standing subject off a force plate. It took more than twice the force to displace a person standing on Springbak® Springsoles. In baseball that lands squarely on the two moments that decide at-bats and innings: the back-foot load in a swing or a pitch, and the first step out of a static stance.
- A more stable rear-foot platform to rotate against — the base a swing and a delivery are both built on.
- The anchoring effect widens the effective base of support in the box and in the crouch: better balance, less wasted motion before the move.
- Repeated compression from squatting, standing and hard-plate cleats spread by a resilient layer instead of the plate alone.
- The same feel in the ninth as in the first — the material returns to shape between reps instead of packing out like foam.

Force-Plate Stability Study
In force-plate testing, subjects standing on Springbak® Springsoles showed more than twice the overall resistance to being pushed from their position.
In plain English: they were harder to move. They could hold their ground better against a sideways push—exactly the kind of stability athletes need when planting, cutting, jumping, landing, and absorbing contact.
Springbak® gives the foot a more stable, responsive platform to work from inside the shoe.
Results are from the force-plate testing described in U.S. Patent No. 6,589,630 B1. Individual results vary.

Challenge Two
The Springbak® core challenge — trunk rotation test
Basketball, volleyball, golf, baseball, track and field and strength training all depend on more than straight-line speed. Core mobility and body control matter just as much, and rotation is the cheapest way to test them — no tape measure, no timing gate.
Test your core rotation
- Stand comfortably with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Keep your feet planted and face straight ahead.
- Extend your arms in front of you, or cross them over your chest.
- Slowly rotate your upper body as far as is comfortable — without moving your feet.
- Note your finishing position: a spot on the wall, a piece of furniture, a mark on the floor.
- Insert your Springbak® Springsoles and repeat the exact same movement.
- Compare your comfort, balance, control and range of rotation.
Do not force the movement. The purpose is to compare how your body feels and moves under the same conditions, so keep the shoes, surface, stance and technique identical on both attempts.
Score your result
Take the test, then rate the second attempt against the first to get your Springbak® Challenge score.
Turn. Control. Compare. Same athlete, same shoes, same challenge.
Fitting them to your baseball & softball footwear
- Try the Springsole without trimming first.
- If the factory liner is removable, remove it and place the Springsole underneath it.
- If the liner is lightly glued, gently pull to see whether it releases cleanly. If it does, place the Springsole underneath it.
- If the liner begins to tear, stretch, deform, or resist removal, stop and leave it in place. Put the Springsole on top instead.
- Never force out a firmly bonded or stitched liner.
- Trim only if needed for a flat fit, starting at the toe/forefoot and removing a very small amount at a time.
- Do not trim the heel and do not unnecessarily narrow the sides.
- Recheck the fit after every small trim.
- Run a second pair in turf shoes and trainers for cage work, bullpens and long toss so game day feels the same as practice.
- Test them in batting practice and one full-speed base-running rep before you play in them, exactly as you would with new cleats.
FAQ
Baseball & Softball insoles — frequently asked questions
Do they fit metal baseball cleats?
+
Yes, as long as the insole comes out. The Springsole sits between the plate and the insole. If the footbed is stitched in, the Springsole goes on top of it instead, directly under your foot.
Is there a softball version?
+
Same product — order the US women's or US men's size range that matches your shoe and try it untrimmed first. If needed, trim a very small amount from the toe or forefoot and recheck before cutting more.
Do Springsoles help hitting power or just running?
+
Both are rooted in what the back foot does against the ground. Players report a firmer, springier feel through the plant leg in rotation as well as out of the box.
Will they fit metal and molded baseball cleats?
+
Yes — both, as long as the insole is removable. Trim the toe outline for narrow cleats.
What about catchers who squat for nine innings?
+
Catchers are one of the highest-volume compression jobs in sport. The resilient layer takes some of that repeated load off the heel and forefoot, and it returns to shape between crouches instead of packing out like foam.
What does the force-plate study actually show for balance and stability in the box?
+
Weber State University's Human Performance Laboratory measured the horizontal force needed to push a standing subject off a force plate, with and without Springsoles. It took more than twice the force to displace the person standing on Springsoles. Practically, that is an anchoring effect: the material resists collapse sideways under load, so the platform you rotate against in the batter's box or hold in a catcher's crouch moves less.
How does a grounded stance help a hitter or a pitcher specifically?
+
Both movements are a ground sequence: rear foot loads, hip rotates, energy travels up the chain. If the surface under the rear cleat gives way, part of that force is lost before it reaches the barrel or the ball. A stiffer, resilient layer keeps the base under the back foot and hands a share of the load back as the hip turns.
Does more stability make me slower out of the box?
+
No — the layer is 3/32 of an inch and the same thickness heel to toe, so nothing about your cleat's geometry changes. Stability here means the platform resists sideways collapse; energy return means it pushes back as it unloads. Those work together on the first step, not against each other.
Is the effect the same for a 14-year-old travel-ball player and a college infielder?
+
The mechanism is the same for anyone standing on the material: a resilient layer between the foot and a hard cleat plate. Force-plate testing was done on adults, and individual results vary with size, position and shoe. Size ranges cover youth through adult US sizes; trim only if needed for a flat fit.

Order your normal UK shoe size. This listing covers UK 5/6, 7/8 and 9/10. If you fall between two ranges, take the larger one. Try it untrimmed first, then trim only the toe or forefoot in very small amounts if needed for a flat fit.
How do these compare to other sizing standards?
UK sizing runs about 1 size below US men’s and 5 sizes below EU (UK 8 ≈ US men’s 9 ≈ EU 42.5). All four listings are the exact same patented 3/32-inch Springbak® Springsole at the same price — only the size scale printed on the package changes. The current price is shown live from our store.
Will Springsoles fit boots, trainers and court shoes?
Yes. Try the Springsole without trimming first. Trim only if needed for a flat fit, starting at the toe/forefoot and removing a very small amount at a time. Do not trim the heel and do not unnecessarily narrow the sides. Recheck the fit after every small trim. At 3/32 of an inch, Springsoles fit boots, trainers and court shoes with minimal added thickness.

Not just for competition
Balance and stability off the court
The same patented material shows up in stability testing, not just performance testing. On a force plate at Weber State University it took more than twice the force to push a person off the plate while standing on Springsoles. If you or a parent are on your feet all day, read Springsoles for seniors: balance and stability all day on your feet. And if you play the fastest-growing court sport in the country, see pickleball insoles for court shoes and hard-court play.
